Today I would like to share my thoughts and frustration with you, you see in recent years I have seen the industry I love lose it way. Where once people wanting to build their dream would have looked at the journey as exciting and joyous. Believe it or not working directly with your builder and designer is fun and very powerful in terms of fulfilment, we unfortunately are now seeing fear, mistrust and tears, budget blow outs, poor quality work and unprecedented anxiety levels.
In recent years there has been a negative force gathering momentum in our industry, a force which has flourished using fear as its evil weapon. Where once builders, designers and clients would work together as a unified team sharing a common goal, we are now seeing financially motivated third parties driving these three apart. In no other industry would you see individuals work in isolation when multiple disciplines are required to achieve a positive end result. Could you imagine a team of surgeons, or engineers working on a common goal, but not working as a well prepared team from the outset?
Find a builder you are comfortable with, you will be spending a lot of time with him or her, avoid third parties who claim to be able to get you the best price, they will not, they will at best possibly get you the cheapest price and believe me there is a difference.
In the following weeks, I hope to use my blog to help others in a positive way by sharing my experiences and leanings through this blog.
